Hand-Held Window Sampling
Hand held sampling is used where a rig is unable to go due to access or height restrictions. A jack hammer powered from a hydraulic power pack, replace the drop-weight as a way of driving attached sample tubes into the ground. The method can therefore be classified as a form of drive sampling in which a tube or split tube sampler having a sharp cutting edge at its lower end is forced into the ground by dynamic impact (the same method as using a rig) the depth achieved is normally (depending on strata) a maximum 5 metres deep. Please note: SPT’s, dynamic probing and the use of casing cannot be used whilst operating the hand held method of sampling
